the great door something grand

Young children never find it necessary to communicate in subtleties, which really does take the guesswork out of imagining what they’re thinking in any given moment. So when this little guy abruptly flung himself down on the city sidewalk I was fairly clued in to the fact that he was over the photo session.

What I find even more fascinating than a child’s ability to honestly express their emotions with complete disregard for social convention or niceties, is that wherever these intense outbreaks lead can just as suddenly offer a fresh new vantage point for discovery. Once the boy had fully landed in this spot, experienced the hard, somewhat coolish surface of the aged concrete and unique view of the curious passersby overhead, I noticed he was now completely engaged with all that was around him. He took it in with such thoughtful attention and awe, that I later found myself wondering just how it must have felt to be him in this moment.
