Creating a portrait feels to me like a shared dream. In the infinitesimal seconds prior to an anticipated shot a portal appears which transports my subject and I outside of normal time and space. I’m sure of this. There’s an otherworldly quality that can only be likened to being in the throes of a great love affair, or perhaps even spiritual ecstasy. It’s so transitory that mostly it goes unnoticed, but with camera I’m ready and waiting, quietly summoning the dream.
