the archivist looking out

Cats and young children seem to have the greatest talent for creating a cozy nest no matter where they are. It’s not so much the ability to locate the comfy haven that fascinates me as it is the speed with which they make it home. Only a fraction of a second after settling into the new territory they are there completely, snug as can be. They’re unconcerned over size, prestige, or proximity to Starbucks. No decorating dilemmas or contracts to sign. If it feels good it’s home. Done.

And then, just as easily as they created and adapted to the nest of the moment they detach, move on, and begin again.
