The two key forces that drive my work appear to be connection and vulnerability. Mostly we want to lean in the direction of connection while at the same time push away any feelings of vulnerability. But of course the main prerequisite of true connection is great vulnerability, and therein lies the tension and the paradox. So I’m continually seeking images where these two elements intersect, reaching for a level of intimacy that largely remains elusive.

The hypersensitivity that I arrived on the planet owning makes it impossible for me to deny my own vulnerability, which I think lends an intensity to genuine connection that is difficult to maintain. Photography for me is a means to confront this paradox within myself. It’s a never-ending process that I don’t believe will ever have the neat and tidy resolution I might prefer, so the discipline is learning to live the unanswerable questions, allowing the messiness of incongruities to dwell alongside harmonious connection.
