You just never really know what you’re going to get when placing children together for a group photo, but it’s most always genuine. Portrait worthy? Not necessarily. And yet this for me this is what makes photographing kids infinitely more interesting than photographing adults.
Since I’ve been doing this long enough to know that parents for the most part still want portraits of their kids looking pleasant and face front to the camera, I do try my best to accommodate them. But secretly I’m happiest when kids present me with their own unique spin on the sibling shot, even though I know there’s a good chance the resulting image won’t sell.
